In writing Part 4, I have some specific questions:
1. Should there be more or less zombie-related scenes (i.e zombie fights)? Or is there just enough? 2. Who is your favorite character? Who is your least favorite character? 3. Do you want more or less moral choices, for example, should I steal or should I kill other survivors? 4. Do you feel scenes are adequately described? Are there too many details, or not enough? 5. Do you enjoy longer scenes (i.e. Fuel Run mission), or shorter scenes (River and Starr escort, trip with Heather to the woods, etc.)? Or a balance of both?
1: relatively more, since it is a zombie game, and if you make less it would seem as if it's all calmed down. 2: my favourite character is bias to Crone, but other then him... Heather 2 1/2: Candace she's stupid and useless. I don't like that combination. 3: moral choices are everywhere, especially in a apocalypse. So more 4: I believe there is enough description 5: balance of both hands down, I enjoyed massively the fuel run, but I found myself clapping in anticipation as I went through the smaller missions. And it helps keep my attention :P
And one small question... Why was 'going forward' closed???
1. Depends on how you're going to write part 5, if you have less zombie in these section, I'd take it as the calm before the storm and expect mass zombies in the next part which would make sense leading up to the Zombie Exodus. That said more zombies is always fun :}
2. Favourite character Heather, I'm not romancing her but she she's shown herself to be practical and pragmatic willing to do whatever she needs to survive. She seems realistic to how people would become in a Zombie apocalypse. I'm also loving River which seems to be me in a minority.
Least favourite, Emma. I know it's like a big sub-plot part but her whole little girl ghost/hallucination/whatever it is thing, is just kind of annoying. (sorry!) I'm still not sure who she is a person other than my sister and mental ill, that's kind of all there is to her. Although the same can be said for Uncle Lou. He's kind of just there...
3. More would be great, I adore the whole moral choice dilemmas. Although if you play as a high humanity character you lose a lot of those choices I've noticed. Like with Colin, you end up with only two choices of how to deal with him; leave him in the room, help him escape. You loose that moral choice of letting him live or not. I'd also love to see more of the results of those kind of decisions, like with the whole river and star part. Which was brilliantly done by the way.
4. The description is perfect.
5. I like a balance of both. I loved the time limit aspect of the Fuel run as well.
1 More 2 favorite mindy (She is useful and has good sense.) least favorite is candace as well (she has not mastered her fear.) 3 more 4 the detials are fine as is 5 balance
As zigzag said, uncle Lou is just.. There.. There should be more character building with him, because I like the idea of a big teddy bear of a guy, which is all I've gotten from his description.. Candace is also a very small character, thus why I don't like her, because all I know is she's useless and not the brightest, I have no grip on her personality. I really hope to see Carl again soon
1 more over all 2 mindy is my favorite, would like more story with her. I would also enjoy more Toby. Tom is my least favorite 3 more moral choices. this is the end of civilization! pirating, or the option to, would be in the forefront 4 good detail level 5 I'd like to see longer. fuel trip/ medicine run with mindy length at least.
More zombie fights, but I think they should also be getting harder because of Exodus, so maybe zombie hordes instead of 1 or 2.
Favorite character is Mindy, of course.
Least Favorite is hard to pick for me, but if you mean out of the Cathredal, then Candace, just because she really hasn't been interacted with or useful, and has done nothing to make me care about her, personally. No comradice established during fights, no heartfelt talks, nothing.
1. i think its good as you originaly write it, more is not always better thats what some people dont get so they flood thier stories with zombies not focusing on the storyline as much. with ZE i feel like im playing through a Walking Dead game instead of just throwing Zombies in to the meat grinder like Dead Rising.
2. i love the Characters Emma, Mindy, Toby & Hadley the ones i dont care for are Carl, Javier (but he's dead) & Jason, i wanted to put his head through one of his computers right at the beginning of the game when we were searching for a phone to call Emma & he shut his computers down & kicked us out
@Syndicate he asnwered this in the ZE topic thats closed now but i'll paste what he said

Once I finish that scene, freeing only Crone will appear more reasonable I hope. If not, I can change it, but there are only a limited number of people with potential to join the Cathedral: Hadley, Crone, Meng, and possibly Lyndsey.
1.less zombies only if we screw up badly we should fight zombies Well anyway the zombie survival guide says avoid fighting with the zombies whenever possible and in reality that is true! 2.There is no such thing us less or more favourite character! 3.Moarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr like walking dead game!Lets us ration food and things like that! 4.Meh don't care/Fine 5.Balance but higher rewards
1. The number is fine 2. So far mindy and Toby And i dont like. Well it's between Carl Jason and Tom 3. Some more would be interesting 4. I think the description is great 5. I would like more but with a bigger sence of danger like one loud noize and every zombie/bandit will be heading your way like an increase is getting caught
I cant give uch feadback, i found this on accident and loved it from day 1. My favorite characters: Javier(ya know until he went all....ugh on me), heather, River(although he and star kinda...seem strange). My least favorite: Tom boy i cant wait to put a bullet in his head but only after i beat the crap out of him, Jason "hey thanks for kicking me out of your room and into the zombies asshole"(me at part 1), carl i wish i left you in the barn, and devlin he just pissed me off from the start
Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I have about 6 weeks to finish Part 4 based on my schedule of regular updates. Most missions will be smaller scenes (the trend these days seem to keep vignettes limited), but the conclusion of Part 4 will be massive -- zombies and bandits attack the Cathedral. Every survivor has a role in the fight. It will be a huge scene, with lots of impact.
I will try to enhance Uncle Lou and Candace more. I have plans for them.
Maybe cause he's a jealous, crazy, violent, jerk who's penchant for holding things in until letting them out in a violent outburst is extremely dangerous to the group? I mean, if he weren't that way then even Jason's stupidity wouldn't have made him snap like that.
1. Should there be more or less zombie-related scenes (i.e zombie fights)? Or is there just enough?
Relative to part 3, I'd say less, relative to part 4, I'd say more.
2. Who is your favorite character? Who is your least favorite character?
Favorite: I honestly can't say. I like nearly all of them.
Least Favorite: Jason (he's a self-centered prick who doesn't risk his neck like every one else and has destabilized the group by sleeping with another group member's girlfriend.)
BTW, I'd love to see both Uncle Lou and Candace enhanced.
3. Do you want more or less moral choices, for example, should I steal or should I kill other survivors?
Not if they're totally random, but if there is good reason for them, then yes, I think difficult choices increase the realism and emotional impact to the game.
4. Do you feel scenes are adequately described? Are there too many details, or not enough?
I feel the scenes are adequately described, but the appearances of the other characters could at times be a little more detailed. This isn't a constant though, there are times when the level of character description is perfectly fine.
5. Do you enjoy longer scenes (i.e. Fuel Run mission), or shorter scenes (River and Starr escort, trip with Heather to the woods, etc.)? Or a balance of both?
I prefer scenes that are as long as they need to be to do them justice. That said, Fuel Run did seem a tad long, and the trip with Heather to the woods did seem a little short. I didn't dislike either scene however. So I suppose my sweet spot is somewhere in the middle, but a balance of both works too.
Jason needs a good PR person. I'll have to work on some "save the cat" moments for him.
(Save the cat is a story device in which an unlikeable character does something noble or heroic to gain the reader's favor, like saving a cat in a tree)
@shoelip you cannot judge carl over one mistake (sure it was a big mistake) but he contributed alot to the group, and Jason pushed him into it, hell I always tell him I would do the same, because even in a zombie apocalypse I'm not letting a punk ass nerd talk shit and steal my girl
@TDOT, He tried to beat a guy to death for flirting with his girlfriend! That's not one mistake, that's messed up. The only possible way for that to be acceptable is if Jason's attention to Candace had been unwanted which it doesn't seem to have been. Carl has issues...a boat load of issues.
That said I like him XD I hope we run into him again.
1) Jason made a bad first impression at the apartment building where he had time to brag about his computer, but couldn't be troubled to allow our character to call his sister, finally kicking our character outside at the first sign that there might have been a zombie outside. Thanks a lot you #$%$#&*!
2) I don't recall Jason ever going out on a mission and risking his own skin.
3) All the time he's spent playing on the computer doesn't seem to have helped the group any as far as I can tell.
4) His keeping the finger of the girl he totally forgot about until she was dead is rather creepy.
5) At a time when we're all trying to survive we don't need division, and he's creating it big time by sleeping with another group member's girlfriend.
6) The group member whose girlfriend he's sleeping with also happens to be the owner of the Cathedral in which he and all the rest of us are now staying as guests.
7) I haven't seen any evidence that his interest in Candace goes beyond a selfish desire to get laid. Given the circumstances, acting on that desire with Candace of all people was just plain recklessly stupid.
I'm not giving Candace or Carl a total pass either, they're certainly flawed too, but they're not self-centered pricks the way Jason is. I doubt saving a cat would rehabilitate him in my eyes, but I suppose if he shouldered his share of the risk, his computer skills turned out to be more useful to the group's survival, and/or if I felt he truly loved Candace, I might be more sympathetic, or at least not see him as such a total waste of space. BTW, that doesn't mean I want any changes made to the character. I enjoy disliking him. :D
i would prefer he stay the way he is, him risking himself for anybody seems waaaaaaaay out of character especially if theres nothing for him to gain out of it
and i think carl might have over reacted but c'mon this arragont little prick hints to sleeping with his girlfiend, IMMEDIATLLY after carl stopped himself from killing him because he was talking down to him
The hate on Jason feels like it stems at least partially from this idea that he's not "alpha" or whatever so how dare he steal a more "alpha" male's girl. Guess what. He didn't "steal" her. She chose him. She's not Carl's property.
he was rubbin it in carls face thats enough for me to hate on him right there
and you known what your partially right, when a big guy acts tough it makes me angry yeah when a twiggy little guy acts like he's a big man i do get even madder,
1. The huge cathedral finale sounds awesome. I'd like fewer zombie encounters in the rest of part 4, to build up anticipation and increase the finale's impact. 2. My favorite is Tom. He's one of the most intriguing characters, and I'm still not sure if he's a good guy. My least favorite is Jason (sorry for jumping on the bandwagon). 3. More! 4. I think some of the action scenes are slightly too detailed, but everything else feels just right. 5. Longer ones. IMO, they're more immersive. (The fuel run is simply brilliant.)
ya spoken true least favorite is jason he just makes me so angry he was gloating to carl about candace so the one time my humanity goes down is because i held back uncle lou and let carl beat him up and i help carl escape
The hate on Jason has nothing to do with his being alpha or not. It has to do with his being a self-centered selfish prick who doesn't think about anyone but himself. And I most certainly don't consider Carl any more alpha than Jason, but I do consider Carl to be a lot more useful. That's an important distinction.
And no, Candace didn't choose Jason over Carl, she was diddling them both at the same time. Had she told Carl that she was leaving him for Jason, and Carl attacked Jason any way, then I would put more blame on Carl. Instead she and Jason hid it from Carl, and then Jason couldn't help but be a jerk when Carl confronted him about it. People with the least bit of empathy for their fellow human beings, or even just plain common sense, don't say stupid things like that to a person who is on the edge of losing his temper without expecting a fight. That's like waving a red carpet in front of a bull and expecting the bull to just stand there and do nothing.
like @P_Tigras said, Carl was obviously on the edge of losing his temper and he was ABOUT to leave so he didnt do anything drastic, then Jason had to blurt at that last comment, and well.. lets just say I dont think uncle lou is fast enough with me on his back
@P_Tigras Except that bulls are not human beings. If Carl is being held to the same standards as a horny bovine then why not Jason as well?
@Bikkje Well he's obsessed with her, as in "in love with" and he's possibly sexist enough to think that she can't make a choice on her own because she's a woman and it's entirely between him and Jason. Although the only real solid evidence is for the former.
@Shoelip At least Carl was pushed into losing his temper. Nobody pushed Jason into acting like an animal. He freely chose to rut like a bull heedless of the potential consequences.
I'd say Carl isn't as hard on Candace for three reasons:
1) He loves her and doesn't want to hurt her. Yes, he's a bit suffocating, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care for her. And no matter how betrayed he feels, he can't just will away his feelings for her. So it's easier for him to aim his anger at Jason instead.
2) True or not, she's always allowed Carl to believe that she loves him. And if it's true, he doesn't want to destroy it.
3) She never pushed him over the edge the way Jason did.
@jimd that'd be awesome in the little conversation you have with him after the fight I wanted to be able to walk in and smack him in the head for being such an idiot
@shoelip here's the deal if my girlfriend left me for someone else it's her choice that's fine If I catch her flirting with someone else I end the relationship because that is not something I want to get caught up in if my girlfriend cheats on me with someone else I'd be pissed but I would handle the situation calmly however if he had the balls to gloat at me and bring my manhood into question (In any of this situations) I will hold him down and rip off his testicles if he's lucky in my opinion Carl's reaction was perfectly reasonable
also as for the idea that Carl believes she can't make her own choices its less likely that it is due to sexism and more likely it is due to the fact she has proven herself incompetent and fearful on several occasion and if not for Mindy would most likely be dead
@817819, when has she proved herself incompetent and fearful? I don't recall any situation is which she has been.
And yeah Jason acted like dick, but Carl's reaction was way over extreme and unjustifiable. You don't beat someone to death for sleeping with your girlfriend or for talking crap at you. It's a gross overreaction.
carl tried to control his anger and leave before he attacked him, full aware this guy was sleeping with his girlfriend and apparently jason just HAD to push his luck a little more
you dont sleep with someones girlfriend and if you do you sure as crap dont rub it in their face, as far as i know the ONLY logical conclusion is carl attacking jason
