A few months ago, I came up with an idea to write a story in my setting in Choicescript, something set near the beginning of the main Infinite Sea Universe (or Infiniverse) timeline. So, I wrote and sent a pitch, then promptly forgot about it.

Three weeks ago, I figured I might as well get on with it, thus, Sabres of Infinity was born.

Sabres of Infinity is set during a war between the Unified Kingdom of Tierra and the League of Antar. The player is a cavalry officer in the Royal Tierran Army during the first phase of this war, going through training, a rough sea voyage to the front and a series of raids and patrols leading to a climactic set-piece battle between the massed forces of both belligerents. Think of it as Sharpe to Choice of Broadsides' Hornblower.

The war itself is just one portion of the story. In addition, the player will interact with several major NPCs, whose careers and lives often depend on the player's actions. As the player vies for riches, favour and patronage, the player's NPC compatriots will be doing the same, often aiding or clashing with the players interests.

The rough drafts of a prologue and two chapters (out of twelve) are finished. You can rifle through them here:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49716174/Sabres%20of%20Infinity/web/mygame/index.html

NOTE:
You may have noticed that I've had to unfortunately pigeonhole players into playing the role of a male of noble birth, there are a couple of reasons for that.
1: The pre-existing setting, which is already developed with a wide cast of characters (some of whom are long dead, or haven't been born in the time covered by the story), which kinda prevents a full genderswap.
2: The magic system basically requires me to make the player a certain social class, else I'd basically be making three separate games.
3: I plan on doing some art for this as well, and seeing as I don't really have much time to work on this in the first place, allowing for the full range of humanity at character creation would raise the amount of work I'd have to do to ludicrous levels.
4: Because, I am at heart, a lazy sucker with a narrow comfort-zone for writing. As such, I'd prefer to stick to what I know for my first foray into Choicescript, and have no confidence in my ability to write properly fleshed out female characters.]]>

It takes place in a medieval fantasy world, and there will be magical creatures.

You've always had a somewhat normal life, no horrible tragedies, no epic quests, you can however do some well...odd things that take years of magical practice without breaking a sweat, but you have kept those a secret, even from those closest to you. One day, well buying supplies for your family business you are stole off the street by the castle guards, claiming that you are none other than the prince/ss! It turns out that the real prince/ss has been "misplaced" *cough*theyranaway*cough* and you look exactly like them, except for the fact that you are of the opposite sex, which their personal servent unfortunately finds out the hard way. Now it is too later to reveal yourself without your head ending up on a pike. With only your servent to help you, you must navigate your way through the minefield of court politics filled with cousins, lords, and ladies who are very unhappy about the heir to the throne's return. Can you play the part of a royal while still managing to keep your normal life "normal"? Where is the real prince/ss? Why do you look exactly like them? Will you take the throne or die trying?

So far there are two opposite sex romances, one same sex, and one that you choose their sex. I hope to make the story more comical but it will have its serious moments. Oh! I haven't named anybody yet so if you think of any good ones let me know :) . Quick question, can you do CS on an iPad? (I have a laptop but I prefer to use my iPad)
Thank you for your time, feel free to ask me any questions and I hope to get a demo to you soon.]]>

Game Name: "Unnatural"
Game Genre: "Horror"

Synopsis:

Monsters are real.

The Supernatural Response Team (S.R.T) are a group formed to deal with them. They track down and either capture or kill any monster they can find.

You are one of their potential recruits..

Introduction: This game puts you in the role of a teenager who loses their family in the first documented supernatural case. It follows them as they grow up and eventually joins the S.R.T in an attempt to stop other kids experiencing the loss you have felt.

Game Basics: The game is split into individual "Episodes". Starting off with the "Pilot" which is when the player defines their character, then "Episode One" (currently being written) will cover the initial training period. The second part of "Episode One" and all forthcoming "Episodes" will involve the player dealing with supernatural cases attempting to capture or kill various supernatural monsters [vampires, werewolves, zombies, ghosts, gargoyles, golems etc]

I'm sorry if I haven't finish the other game I'm working on but I just can't get this off my mind.
And I got my own dropbox now!

Nakama you'll never be alone is a little hard to explain, so please just go to the game information for details.
You'll play as a student, up until the world ended. You'll meet a little girl who is exactly like the girl in the book you read. What you need to do is to get the little girl to safety from the "Bad Guys" who wants to kill the little girl to end the ending of the world. On the way, you'll meet various people who'll help you. I'm writing gibberish. I know. I'm sorry.!!

I wrote this from an Anime-ic point of view, but tried to write as realistically as possible.

The anime I took inspiration on are Clannad (the Little Girl in a world that ended), and Zetsuen no Tempest (The Black Iron Syndrome).

So, here's the link!

I've never coded anything ever, but I do believe I have some sort of grasp on CS after fiddling with it for a day.
Anyway, the game I intend to make will be called Life in a New Realm (if the thread title didn't give it away)
I'm going to try and make it quite depth-y. Having many different paths and such for different ages and genders.
I really have no idea how well it'll turn out or anything, just trying to try something new.

Now to the details of the story:
You will be a person differing from age 9-55 who has found themselves transported to a completely different realm. You can try to find a way out, or acclimate to the land.
Knowing nothing of the land though, you find yourself picking a mental guide from "The Emporium of Mental Guides." They can help you learn magic, become adept in swordplay, or even be a very close companion. Many things need to be done in this realm, it's up to you to decide what to do. A fantasy type game is what I'd consider it.

Now I've got the very bloody beginning done. I work my way down the list of ages, so currently the youngest choice has the most. Just barely though. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/175148678/web/index.html

Let's hope that everything works so far. XD]]>

"Lupind stop and think about what you are doing!"
A great lioness growls agrily to a large, menacing wolf. They stand in a great forest with gigantic trees teeming with life.
And yet despite this, all in the forest aside from the lioness and the wolf have grown silent, watching the exchange cautiously.

"You honestly expect me to sit idly by and ignore what mankind has done to my beautiful creation?" The wolf Lupind snarls. "My great wolves have been brought down to the low of mere housepets for these greedy creatures. They have done the same to your creations, and yet you still argue against my decision? I suppose you couldn't possibly understand, you have many beloved creations. While I only have the one. You disapoint me with your foolishness Sena, but how could I expect more from someone who cares for those awful humans so much?"

The lioness Sena roars in rage. "But this unleashing this disease upon the world, it's foolish! They don't even realize that they have offended you! Just stop and think about what this will do!"

Lupind merely turns away from Sena and growls, "There is nothing you can do now, I've already placed the beginnnings of the disease into many of those lazy housewolves. In a few generations, I will be able to take the disease to man. They will see the error of their ways, and the true beauty of my wolves."

With that, Lupind quickly sprints off into the woods. Leaving Sena behind before she can respond.

As you can probably tell, it's still pretty rough around the edges. But I am open to any critiques and ideas that anyone has. ]]>

One thing to note that this will be a very dark setting (depending of course, on your own idea's of what actually constitutes 'dark'), and I'll be touching on, to some extent, pretty much every 'bad' aspect of medieval time period (from slavery to women as non-citizens to incompetent and even crazy rulers to huge bloody battles that left the lower classes in ruins), and that some NPC's actions (and even some options for the PC) may be at least relatively disturbed. Also note that the setting will not be 'gender neutral' and that female PCs will have a slightly to substantially different play through than male PCs. That's not to say it will be significantly harder (or easier), just different.]]>
A Kingdom of Silk http://www.choiceofgames.com/forum/discussion/1403/a-kingdom-of-silk Sun, 12 May 2013 13:27:17 -0400 poisonmushroom 1403@/forum/discussions I've been working on a game for a few weeks now. It's set in the fictional Broken Lands of Borania, inspired (mostly) by Late Middle England. There are next to no fantasy elements. No magic, Elves, dragons etc. Think Choice of Broadsides's take on the Age of Sail. I've planned out exactly what will happen throughout, although I'm still figuring out some of the 'hows'.

The twist is that you play two characters fighting two wars at opposite ends of the Island. The Broken Lands are divided into Borania, the Ember Isles and the Wilderlands. In Borania, in the south, Civil War has broken out as the king lies on his deathbed and there are multiple claimants to the throne. In the North, the Ember Isles have used Baronia's civil war as a chance to invade the overly complacent Wilderlands.

In time the two stories will become much more closely interlaced.

If any of this sounds vaguely interesting, then good news! I have two (albiet short) introduction chapters for you here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/171946488/web/mygame/index.html

There are number of things I'm currently going to change. The Boranian (and possible the Islander as well) needs more professions, the Boranian stats haven't really been thought through properly yet (which is why I haven't added more professions yet), I want to add a few general MC personality building choices and there's a number of written sections that feel very clunky to me. Having said that I'm pleased with where the story is heading so far. Although feel free to disagree!

So let me know what you think, any feedback is appreciated.]]>

You play as a Saber/Sabré (Saber for male, Sabré for female), who has just woken up in a seemingly eery place with no memory to speak of at all. In a strange turn of events, you end up being taken in by a mysterious family who...well, let's just say this: they communicate in quite an interesting way...
This family is known as the Valences. There are others in this odd place as well, which you will soon discover, but all with the same mysterious aura and off-ish behavior as the Valences. Not long after arriving here, you're plagued with dreams-some horrible and haunting, some calmly sweet. But they all have one repetitive trait: the red-eyed child. One not you yourself, but another, one who is quite similar. And familiar. You don't remember most of the dreams, but one phrase still stays with you: "Our lives are like a puzzle. We have all the pieces, but how will they go together? More importantly...what will the final picture be?"
And you can't help but wonder how much of that may be true, especially in your current situation....

But you have a choice; what will you do now? Pursue a romance with one of the Valences? Try to discover the meaning behind your strange dreams? Unravel the secrets of this eery, new place? Insist on finding out who you were and why you were left here? Demand to know why everyone around you seems to be lying? Or will you try to do it all?
The choice is yours!

...Yep. That's pretty much the outline of the idea...I'm not quite sure if it's a good one, but, what the heck, I might as well try it out! I don't have a demo up as of yet, but I will post it when I have it up and running. So far, I have basically everything thought out and will post that for the meantime, and if I create something satisfactory enough, I'll post some pictures of the characters, too. :D Just a warning, though, I’m extremely self-critical when it comes to my drawings.
~~~
This is what I have written for the introduction so far.
Intro.:
Pain.
Searing and burning, pulsating through your very being.
That was the first thing you remembered. Your mind still fogged and hazy, you struggle to open your eyelids.
At first, all you recognized was gray. Though, the longer you stared at it, it began to shift to the point where you finally realized that you were looking up at a faint gray sky. Dark, blurred smudges that speckled the gray sky slowly became clearer, turning into the dark forms of creatures--black colored birds that circled the sky above you.
Your mind process was sluggish, but eventually you came to a sort of conclusion to what you were seeing.
If there is a sky...there must be a world below it, you think.
Thinking this, you decide that there's no point in just lying here. You will need to move eventually, after all. You try to move your arms, only to find that this task would be much more difficult than you ever remembered it to be. It takes some time, but you gradually find the energy to move your body into a sitting position. As soon as you move, though, a painful aching throbs in your head.
Colorful spots dance across your vision and you vaguely register your hand moving to hold your head as it continued to throb with the unbearable aching. Little by little, it faded ever so slowly, until all that ailed you was a bothersome migraine.
You then decide to try standing up, since, after all, nothing could be worse than what you just went through, yes?
As you finally stand, you suddenly find the ground beneath you utterly useless as everything around you spins in a beyond dizzying motion. Just as everything before it, the spinning finally ebbed away, but only after you fruitlessly tried stumbling a couple steps in the direction that you were guessing was straight ahead. Then again, all that time you could've just been stumbling around in a clumsy circle, for all you knew.
You blink your eyes, forcing your brain to go into overdrive as you try to recognize the scenery before you. Perhaps it could help you remember what's going on.
Unfortunately, there isn't very much "scenery" to see, if you could even call it scenery. All you saw surrounding you were trees. Tall, thin, bony, leafless trees with branches that reached up to the sky like claws trying to rip apart the heavens above.
The ground beneath your feet didn't quite help, either. It was bare and dark-colored, cold and frozen.
There must be something here, you think in frustration.
This did seem only reasonable.
If there were birds, then there certainly must be other things, even in a God-forsaken place like this.
Having no other ideas, you decide to do the natural thing: walk until you find something.
You take a cautious step or two forward, testing your ability to move. So far, so good.
You continue walking, passing by the dead-looking trees, which were now fitted with the black colored birds who all stared at you in complete silence from their treetop perches. Their beady eyes bore into you, as if trying to undo the bindings and secrets of your soul.
After passing more trees than you could count, you finally notice that they seemed to be thinning out and clearing away. You quicken your pace, eager to leave the eery forest of dead trees and haunting birds behind.
You almost felt like crying out in joy as you take in the sight of a large house-a mansion. It was old, almost gothic looking. In front of it was a sort of garden, full of strange and mystical plants. Sitting on the unnaturally dark colored grass was a small boy. He couldn't be anywhere past ten years, you were sure. He wore gray clothes and on his head was a wavy mess of white colored hair. He was facing downward, staring at something on his lap, making it impossible for you to see his face.
This house, whoever it belonged to, could very easily be the saving grace you've been looking for. But you already knew nothing of this place, and for all you knew an even worse fate could await you in that old mansion. Debating all these possibilities at once, you decide to...
~~~

And that’s what I have of the introduction. It leaves off where you would make a choice to either go to the house, try to leave, or just stay where you are.

So, is this a good idea? What do you think of the writing? Is there anything that doesn’t make sense to you?

I realize it’s short, but I’d still appreciate it if you guys leave feedback :)

Next, after you are born, you are given a random set of talents and (if you parents decided to teach you one other than your countries main) languages. I already have thought of a few talents, such as instrument profiency, athleticism, and other things you might see in a game like The Sims. If you have any suggestions then please allow me to know.

Another thing I am integrating is a career and finance system. You can buy things, go to work and live out your days until seniority.

Now, if you're not a fan of having things picked for you, it's alright, I'm programming separate mode where you can pick your stats. If any of you have any other suggestions or things I have yet to think of then suggest away.
