Donate to Choice of Games Today!

Posted by: Jason Stevan Hill | Comments (17)

Or tomorrow. Or every day!

You asked for it, and we’re happy to say it’s here: our very own Paypal donate button! You can see it in the column to the left. The more money we receive, the more resources we can invest in the next round of games.

As you may be aware, you can leave a “comment” with your Paypal donation. If you want your money to go to a specific game (e.g. Choice of the Dragon), then you can tell us so in the comment field of Paypal. If you do not specify which game it should go to, it will go into the general CoG fund.

Along these lines, if you want to see a particular game produced (e.g. Choice of the Werewolf, Choice of the Wizard), you can earmark your donations for those games in your PayPal comment. We still have a long list of game ideas to choose from. PLEASE NOTE: We reserve the right to actually use those funds however we choose, but if we see you voting with your dollars, it will strongly motivate us to produce the games you want to see (and are willing to pay for). And, if you’re really nice, I might even periodically update the community on the status of fundraising for various games.

Finally, I can give you money.

  2. Sam says:

As soon as I can, I’m donating. I love these games so much.

  3. Ian Holmes says:

I completely understand you reserving the right to use the money how you choose.

That said, can you give any feedback on how much time (and treasure) it takes you to produce a game?

  4. Benjamin says:

Jason, I’m happy to see the update.

I sent choiceofgames an email a few days ago. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a wall-of-text, but considering the business you are in, I knew that the choiceofgames team could stomach it.

Have you gotten a chance to read it? I’m quite interested in your reply.

    Graciously,

    -Ben

  5. Fran says:

Excellent! I don’t see a button on the front page, though – that might be a good idea?

I would love to donate but I don’t have any money but if I did i would donate so I can see Werewolfs and Vampires go into war so you can pick a side or be a human

  7. Luke Hunter says:

I know i sound like a broken record, but if i donate, can i donate to vote for a forum?

  8. Jason Stevan Hill says:

@Luke Hunter: Yes. Someone donated with the request of us producing an ad-free version of the Android apps, for example.

  9. Kamer says:

Happy to see the update. Unfortunately, I’m broke at the moment.
We really appreciate what you guys are doing. I introduced my friends to these games, so expect a few more supporters and donations soon.

  10. Donald says:

It’s great to see that Choice Of Games has got a revenue stream of sorts. I will definitely be donating to you guys.

However, I do wonder what this means for people that have hosted games with you. Will you be setting up another means of generating revenue for them, or will you be changing the terms of the hosted games plan?

  11. Jason Stevan Hill says:

@Donald As I noted in the original post, we invite the donating individuals to inform us of how they would like their donation allocated. Some have already donated to hosted games in this fashion. Therefore, nothing is changing with regard to our hosted games agreements.

  12. CPFace says:

On a tangentially related note, you’ve been good enough to release hosted games as iPhone/Android apps, but so far a hosted game hasn’t come out since you’ve started charging for apps. Will future hosted games authors get the option to charge for their apps or make them available for free? How much say would they have in the cost?

Does the website accept user submitted content? I’ve got an idea I’ve been working on and I downloaded the same code that the games on this site use. I did have a couple of questions about this code however…

    1) Do you have to go through the scenes in order? For my idea, I kind of want different scenes for a different direction based on the choices (i.e. – wizards get one type of adventure, warriors get another and so on).

    2) Is there a way to add atmospheric music to these files? I like to listen to it while playing the games on here, though I’d like to attach my own music to my project.

If anybody knows any of this, you can contact me at: jlw1098@psu.edu Thank you all! I hope to see may enjoying my work on this site.

  14. Can’t answer as to music (but I don’t think so) but scenes don’t have to be gone through in order, just use the *goto_scene command.

(On the subject of user submissions, I’m working on a beginner’s guide to ChoiceScript if the team think such a thing would be useful to the community)

I love these books / games !!! I just finished making my donation. I ran into Broadsides on Android Market and tried it. I was blown away, it was amazing. Before I finished Broadsides I got Dragon & I am now reading that. These books / games are so much fun. I hope you can continue putting the out. I look forward to your new releases. Thanks for all your hard work & for the excellent product you put out. And I’ll be tweeting about you on twitter too.

  16. Shirley X says:

I’m going to donate again. just for the sake of a new game coming out sooner.
My favourites are Dragon and romance.

  17. erika says:

I really want them to make a game called choice of the werewolf
