Choice of Games encourages you to submit your finished ChoiceScript game to us so that we can host it for you publicly; we’ll give you a share of the revenue your game produces.
We encourage everyone to try out ChoiceScript for coding their own multiple-choice games. We have a short, incomplete introduction to ChoiceScript available, and anyone is welcome to download the interpreter from GitHub and try it out.
When you’re finished, send your game to support@choiceofgames.com. We’ll maintain a section of our website for “hosted games”: games that we did not develop but that we make available to the public. We think that it’s in everyone’s interest to have a single website that offers all of the games written using ChoiceScript. Game authors/designers/developers benefit by gaining exposure to additional users who might want to try out their games; users benefit by finding additional games that are similar to the games Choice of Games produces; and Choice of Games benefits by making www.choiceofgames.com an active website with a wide range of content.
When Choice of Games hosts games, we also “package” the games into apps for release for iPhone, Android, and other smartphones. Because we’ve released our own games that way, we can release other ChoiceScript games quickly and easily.
We split any revenue our hosted games produce with the games’ creators. While our standard model is advertising supported, we’re happy to release games on a pay-to-download basis or with other approaches to revenue generation if the games’ creators prefer.
We do require our approval for any games that we host and release, but mostly that means we check to make sure that the game will run reliably (by running our automated tests), that the game is written in clear English, that the game doesn’t infringe other people’s intellectual property (we can’t host a Harry Potter or Star Wars game), and that the game is not highly offensive. We also reserve the word “Choice” in game titles for games we have produced internally.
We don’t require game creators to use us for hosting their ChoiceScript games, but we think that it’s in everyone’s interest to do so. Creators who choose not to host their ChoiceScript games with us will need to obtain a license from us if they intend to produce any revenue. (We license ChoiceScript for free for non-commercial use; if you want to put your ChoiceScript game up on your own website, without ads or any other form of commercialization, you’re free to do so, but wouldn’t it be better to put it on our site and receive some payment for it?)
If you would like more information, or if you have a game that’s ready for us to look at and host, please contact us at support@choiceofgames.com.
