Coming Soon: “Choice of the Star Captain”

Posted by: Dan Fabulich | Comments (18)

Mark your calendars! “Choice of the Star Captain,” our newest “Choice of” game, will be released on Tuesday, September 25th. Download this hilarious interactive science-fiction novel on Tuesday from the iOS App Store, the Android Google Play Store, the Amazon Kindle Store, or the Chrome Web Store. A free trial version will be available on our website.

Fight on the front lines of the war between humanity and the hideous Blobs. (Not that anyone has actually seen a Blob up close, but everyone knows they have tentacles. Surely they’re hideous!) Go on stealth missions, run alien blockades, and investigate mysterious planets, “aided” by Lloyd, your insufferably obnoxious shipboard computer.

If you’d like to be reminded when “Choice of the Star Captain” is available, subscribe to our blog on the right-hand side of this page, or follow us on Twitter, Facebook, or Google+. We’ll run one more blog post on Tuesday to post download links.

In the meantime, we’re running a countdown on Twitter/Facebook/G+, featuring quotes from the game.

  • Tuesday: “Lloyd sounds smug. Who in hell programs a computer to be smug?”
  • Wednesday: “Playing with your tiny human brain gives me treasured seconds of amusement.”
  • Thursday: “If gravity were a smell, what do you think it would smell like? A) burnt hair B) triumph C) whiskey D) gravity”
  • Friday: “More hostile function will be met with internal organ besplatterment!”

  1. Doomy23 says:

Sounds like Apex Patrol, except you have to pay for this one. Like every other game they’ve been releasing.

  2. Pqfire says:

I loved apex patrol, So if this is like that I’ll buy it!

  3. UmraheL says:

sounds like apex patrol clone just like choice of zombies… sorry but you need to come up with original games now and not be inspired from hosted games if you want to sell them..

  4. Dorian says:

Hey there! This is Dorian Hart, author of Choice of the Star Captain. I just wanted to mention that a) I was mostly finished with Star Captain before I knew about Apex Patrol, and b) I think you’ll find that the two games are very different, in terms of both plot and style of storytelling. I encourage you to play the free trial when it comes out, and decide for yourself!

  5. Psy says:

I love their games, but darnit, when will they release something that’s free? One of the reasons why I loved CoG was the fact that they made quality games that were free. Wish I could play this but augh, I’m broke. Will just have to wait for the next f2p game.

  6. Rayce says:

I don’t understand why everyone has such a problem with paying for these. They’re not expensive and why should they make them for free? The authors work hard to produce these games. The games are fun and I’m happy to throw down a buck or two for them.

  7. Xavier says:

Cant wait for the next CoG game. but also when will Eerie Estate Agent be released for E-Ink kindles. Ive been waitin for a while…

  8. Ragter says:

I don’t have a problem paying for these, Rayce. I think the problem people have is that CoG basically got their start by releasing free quality games, and now all they seem to do is release games you have to pay for. Heck, even the latest hosted game you have to pay for, Way Walkers, and while I enjoyed it, it’s not even really a complete game.

  9. Xananax says:

I just want to answer some people here (no flaming, just constructive stuff, I hope).

    a) I can’t understand why you would NOT want to pay. I mean, people have invested of their time to create these. Would you like to work for weeks on end and get nothing in return? This is actually slightly better than an actual physical product since you can try and assess if you like it before you pay for it. If you appreciate something (in this case, COG), then by all means, DEMAND to pay for it. If no one pays, then these guys don’t make money and we’re left with crappy Call Of Duty and lobotomized triple A blurps.

    b) There is absolutely no correlation between having two games set in space and two stories being similar. Necessarily, most COG games will follow common mythologies. Should Battlestar Galactica not exist under the pretense that we already have Star Wars?

As for Choice of Script, kudos, I am impressed by the stuff you are producing and the people you are choosing to officially participate until now didn’t fail, even when the premise seemed doomed to me. I hate super-heroes stories, but I still bought Heroes Rise before even trying the free version and enjoyed it tremendously.

    • Xavier says:

I Absolutely, Completely agree with you 100 PERCENT Xananax. Your right. People need to stop flipping ou over like 5 DOLLARS!!!

  10. Alvin says:

So I downloaded this own my tablet but it doesn’t seem to be working, anyone else having the same problem?

  11. Matt says:

Will this be available for (E-Ink) Kindles through the Amazon Kindle store?

If so, do you know when it will be available?

  12. UmraheL says:

I’ve tried the demo although didnt like it much, It’s very different from Apex Patrol.
